bio

As a member of the Survivable Systems Engineering Team, Sven's work includes conducting research on computer security and survivable network technology. Prior to joining the SEI, Sven was a senior security architect at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His work included intrusion detection, distributed denial of service analysis, and the security of Internet Protocol (IP) communications in space. Previously he had served on the faculty at Adelphi University for six years, where he taught mathematics and computer science. Sven belongs to the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), the IEEE CS Technical Committee on Security and Privacy, and Pi Mu Epsilon.

Sven's research interests include computer security, cryptographic protocols, and cryptography.

Sven's recent publications include the book Internet Denial of Service: Attack and Defense Mechanisms (with J. Mirkovic, D. Dittrich, and P. Reiher; Prentice Hall, 2004), "Analyzing Distributed Denial of Service Tools: The Shaft Case" (with N. Long and D. Dittrich) and "The 'mstream' distributed denial of service tool" (with D. Dittrich, G. Weaver, and N. Long).
