About Incident Management

The CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) was the first incident response team created in 1988 in response to the Morris worm incident. Today the CERT/CC is part of the larger CERT Division, which has evolved and now offers a wide range of cybersecurity capabilities. Though its capabilities have expanded, the CERT Division continues to provide expertise in incident response. CERT staff focus on identifying and addressing existing and potential threats, notifying system administrators and other technical personnel of these threats, and coordinating with vendors and incident response teams worldwide to address the threats.

This work includes supporting computer security incident response teams (CSIRTs). We support the development of an international response team community by helping organizations develop, operate, and improve incident management capabilities. Learn more about the services we offer to help organizations stand up a CSIRT.

We also recognize the unique issues facing national CSIRTs. We offer tools and support that enable cooperation and collaboration to solve many of the common issues we share. Learn more about how we support national CSIRTs.
