Communication Study

Responding to some future incident might require significant cooperation by the multiple teams and organizations within their defined communites. We are interested in studying how effectively the incident response teams might work together on a large scale incident, identifying the key factors that might help or hinder them, and, hopefully, using what we learn to make useful recommendations.

We plan to conduct our study by asking the teams to cooperate on one simple task every discreet period (2 to 3 weeks apart). Tasks will be designed to take about 15 minutes (and often much less time) for participants to complete. Each task will be designed to simulate scenarios that might occur during response to an incident, but each task will be completely fictitious and will not contain any sensitive information.

After several months, we will present our preliminary findings to teams, discuss our future plans for the study with them, and solicit their suggestions and feedback.
