As a member of technical staff on the Network Situational Awareness team, Phil develops software to support situational awareness activities in research and operational environments. Phil's current work focuses on improving the usefulness of data analysis and visualization tools in security operations.

Before joining CERT, Phil was a software engineer for the messaging security company CipherTrust, where he helped develop email security software. Prior to that, Phil was a Senior Researcher and Senior Software Engineer at SecureWorks, a managed security service provider, participating in the development of their intrusion prevention and security analysis capabilities.
