Position Statement

Avi Rubin <rubin@cs.nyu.edu>

We are interested in the problem of designing secure coordination protocols among network elements in an actively hostile environment. We assume that from time to time, the network will be under attack by a very resourceful adversary. The goal is to design protocols that are resistant to heavy interference by a powerful attacker. Attacks could include message modification, message deletion and insertion and cryptanalysis. We would like to use the Bellare-Rogaway model to reduce breaking our protocol to breaking some well-studied hard problem. The challenge is to capture the denial of service aspects of the potential attack in the model.
