Gary O'Bright
Director General
Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness

Mr. O'Bright joined the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) in 1975 and held various analytical and supervisory positions until 1983. From 1983 to 1986, he was Head of the International Economic and National Diplomatic Section and, from 1986 to 1988, the Cryptographic Production Section. Mr. O'Bright was appointed the Director of the COMSEC Products Group in 1988. In 1991, he attended the National Defence College in Kingston, Ontario. Upon completion of this program, he became CSE's Director of Strategic Planning and, in 1995, Director of Corporate Management. In August 1997, Mr. O'Bright was appointed to the position of Director of the Information Technology Security Strategic Services Group. Mr. O'Bright joined the Canadian Government's Critical Infrastructure Protection Task Force in April 2000. In April 2001, Mr. O'Bright was named Director General, Operations of the Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness.

Mr. O'Bright received an Honours B.A. in English and History from the University of Windsor in 1972 and an M.A. in Canadian History from the University of Toronto in 1973. He studied business administration at the University of Ottawa between 1976 and 1979, attended Oxford University in England and completed the National Defence College course in 1992.
