CERT Hiring Process

The CERT Program strives to hire candidates who are not only qualified technically, but also who will flourish in our organizational environment. Our employment process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before a final hiring decision is made. Below is general information about our hiring process.

Application
Applicants interested in a CERT job opportunity must apply through Careers@CarnegieMellon

Note: All applicants must be U.S. citizens and eligible to obtain a security clearance.

Preliminary Screening
A technical recruiter reviews all resumes for minimum education and skill requirements. The technical recruiter then forwards qualified candidate resumes to the hiring manager for review and further consideration.

Phone Screen
A member of the technical staff conducts a phone screen with the candidate to evaluate whether the candidate has the qualifications necessary to meet the job requirements.

On-site Interview
To help with the hiring decision, qualified candidates are invited to the CERT Program for interviews with the technical staff. All technical interview candidates are required to give a 30-minute technical presentation, which is followed by a 15-minute question and answer session.

The goal of the on-site interview is twofold: it provides the candidate with a comprehensive understanding of the position and of the CERT work environment, and it helps the hiring manager better understand the candidate's ability to manage job duties and responsibilities.

Job Offers
Offers are extended to the best candidate for the position. All offers are contingent upon the successful completion of background and reference checks.
